This is one of my favourite kind of posts to write - kind of reflective, and kind of sharing advice. I had a job interview on Wednesday this week, and guess what? I got the job! I also want to dedicate this post to my amazing Mum, who has recently adopted the phrase 'Fake It 'Til You Make It' and it has become the family's almost mantra (in an ironic/cheesy/comical way).
After months of searching it feels so good to be back in employment and know that I won't struggle come the end of each month. I'm motivated to start seriously saving (like a real adult) and start to set myself up.
So, this week I thought I'd share some of the tips and tricks I always aim for when I go for a job interview.

Fake It Until You Make It
This basically means be as confident and as forward as you possibly can be, even if it's not what you're really like as a person. In every interview I do, I act as if I already work in the company and know the ins-and-outs of the business until I get my foot in the door, then I can be as shy as I like!
During the interview really emphasise all the good qualities you have - are you a good problem solver? Do you enjoy a challenge? Are you polite? Love to help people? etc. Even if you don't have much previous experience, you still have skills and qualities that will make you desirable to your employer, this is your chance to make them known!
At the same time, be friendly. The person interviewing you is human too, and will appreciate light conversation and casual chit-chat.

Presentation
Obviously, make sure you have showered. Keep make-up to a classy minimum - less really is more! Don't go heavy on eyeliner or eyeshadow, stick to calm neutral shades with a slight blush and a nude/light pink lip.
Keep your clothes smart, but not so smart that you look like you've tried really hard to dress smart! Again, the key here is to keep it really simple. For my interview, I wore some black cigarette trousers and a smart white t-shirt, with an open-front grey jacket on top.
Keep your breath fresh, chew chewing gum on the way to the interview but make sure you get rid of it before you get there! There is nothing professional about slurpy chewing gum noises!

Timing
Do not leave anything to the last minute! Shower the night before, get up at least an hour before you have to leave the house and have any materials, documents or information your potential employer needs all set out the day before your interview.
Leave the house in plenty time! I'd say that ideally you want to arrive no less than fifteen minutes before your interview starts - employers love an early bird!

Most importantly thought, don't fret if you don't get it! Competition for jobs is always very high and you will more than likely be rejected more than you are accepted. I've been job hunting since before Christmas, and this is the first interview I was given!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading! My thoughts are with all those affected by the Belgian attacks this week. #JeSuisBruxelles.
